Monday 15th April saw a visit to Blackpool for funder, BBC Children in Need, as part of their plans developing a new funding strategy. Supported by both Blackpool Council and Third Sector organisations, Ali from got a warm and appreciative welcome to our fabulous town.

Starting with a meeting with key council personnel, Ali was given information about Blackpool, key statistics and information about the wards and Blackpool Council plan. From there Blackpool transport facilitated a tour through the most deprived wards covering children’s provision, green spaces and current projects. Wards included Talbot, Claremont, Bloomfield, Brunswick, Clifton, Park & Victoria.

During the tour Ali got a feel for the town, it’s provision and found out about local developments, following which we ended up at Solaris to meet the 60+ third sector organisations.

Ali started by introducing BBC Children in Need, what they like to fund, how the process works, what they look for and how much the smaller and larger grants are for. Successful applications get support and training from the BBC to report and monitor outcomes and feedback for unsuccessful applications allows charities to review, shape and further develop their application for the next round, increasing success and helping meet both organisations need – Ali was keen to encourage any groups that had been unsuccessful to reapply following feedback.

There were 9 121’s booked in to speak to Ali after her presentation covering a wide range of organisations, projects and questions. Bookings were made on a first come basis but due to the high demand Ali has said she will plan to come back to Blackpool again.

Feedback from the day has been extremely positive and Ali feedback that she’d had a very valuable day and was excited about the projects going on in Blackpool and the potential for funding some of those projects.

A huge thank you to all involved in supporting and attending the event & we look forward to supporting future events with funders and third sector organisations in Blackpool.
